Immune Response of Dogs Immunized with Inactivated Brucella abortus Biotype 1

Abstract
To investigate immunological responses against B. abortus in dogs, Brucella abortus biotype 1 isolated in Korean dairy cattle was inactivated by heating at 95¡É for 1hr and immunized. The immunizes sera of dogs were collected to observe immunological responses by the serological diagnosis methods such as the standard tube agglutination test (SAT), plate agglutination test (PAT), Rose Bengal test (RBT), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), 2-mercaptoethanol slide agglutination test (2ME-RSAT). In SAT and RBT by using the whole cell antigen of B. abortus 1119-3, the antibody titers to inactivated B. abortus biotype 1 were 1:530 at the first week, 1:660 at the second week and 1:260 at the 6th week after immunization, respectively. In PAT by using the whole cell antigen of B. abortus 1119-3, the antibody titers to B. abortus biotype 1 were lower than those of SAT and RBT. The antibodies derived from inactivated B. abortus biotype 1 did not cross-reactive in 2ME-RSAT by using the antigen of B. canis M-. However, it was reacted from the second week after immunization in ELISA using the cytoplasmic proteins antigen of B. abortus 1119-3.
